Would a Health Coach Help You?

IntakesHealth coaching. The first time I heard the term I didn’t really know what it meant. If I’m being honest, it didn’t really sound like something worth looking much into. That was, until I decided I wanted to get some real training in nutrition. Then I learned that while the term ‘health coaching’ is a bit vague and doesn’t communicate much information, a health coach can be an invaluable resource for people who want to feel better. Knowing this I wanted to take a minute and break it down a little bit. What is a health coach? What they do and most importantly, how can they help you? There is too much information to cover in this quick post, but here are some basics:

What is a health coach? A health coach, in short, is a wellness mentor. They are people with knowledge in a wide variety of nutritional theories who helps to cultivate a person’s overall health.

What does a health coach do? Health coaches can offer many different services.  Breaking it down to basics, they meet with people every other week and provide a sounding board, accountability and advice on improving your health. On top of this they may do a pantry makeover, walk you through a grocery store and help you to make more informed food choices.

How can a health coach help me?  Everyone’s health journey is unique. What works for one person doesn’t work for another. Finding your path can be difficult, especially when you have to wade through a sea of trendy diets and contradictory information. A health coach will help you navigate the overflow of information, help you find foods that nourish your body and taste good.

Being healthy is about more than eating the right foods. Our relationships, careers and spirituality are huge parts of our lives and health. When these are out of balance it doesn’t matter if we have the perfect diet or not. Working with a health coach can also help with this by providing a safe space to explore the balance in your life.

To sum it up, a health coach is someone who is there to help you reach your health goals. So what are your health goals?
